2001/2002 I am holding lectures about dvd -authoring and -design at the University of Arts in Berlin (UDK) and the University of Technology Sydney. The content of this seminars:

Webcompetition
Together with Lars Petersen, a danish windsurfing pro we developed a new competition format for windsurfing wave/freestyle contests.
Lars Petersen D99: "I got the idea for the web contest some months ago, after a competition I was thinking about what a shame it was in normal freestyle or wave contest that your ’future’ was determined by 3 judges in 6-8 minutes heats. I thought about how cool it would be to compete longer time and with more judges, and then I came up the web contest format, where with the voting system everybody can be judges and then you get much more sailing time."

The concept
A camera with fixed position records each competitor. Heat duration: 7 min. with one man on the water at the time, then rotating to the next. All repeated 3 times, so the camera recordes totally 21 minutes of each rider. Changing of board and sail during the heat is allowed. Each rider is allowed to choose 1 minute out of his recorded material and determines the editing of his movie. So he is able to select the moves which might be the best for his result. No special effects allowed, no repeats of moves, no editing of moves in a way it looks like they are landed while in reality they are not. Slow motion is allowed.
The video clips are presented on the website and the users are able to vote for their favourite rider via a database voting system. After a certain time the voting will be closed and the result provided to the world.
The first event took place at Klitmøller/dk oct/nov 2001. About 2.000 Votes for the 2 competitors have been a successful start for this new event.

The next competition was the CPT 2002 Webcontest in Capetown South Africa. With more riders (9) and at various spots From Platboom to Elandsbay we set up a new level for the concept. More than 20.000 Votes from the webaudience for the 6 duels will let us go for another contest next year in South Africa again.

Currently we are on Stand By in Sydney Austrlia preparing a Surfing Webcontest and another Wavesailing Webcontest called Smackfest.

Free Your Mind - DVD Video
The Ultimate Freestyle/wave instruction film! "Free Your Mind" is a "must have" Freestyle/Wave instruction video. It takes the viewer through 40 different moves, from the basic Jibes, through the advanced Loops to the entertaining new specialized moves such as the Air Tack and Lollipop. Reigning European IFCA Wave and Freestyle Champion, Lars Petersen is well known for his innovative sailing style as well as being a top instructor. In the video, Lars gives lots of helpful tips on manoeuvre techniques which are richly illustrated from many different angles.
"Free Your Mind" is not just a dull technique film! There's lots of great action as well as travel features on South Africa and Klitmoeller, Denmark.

FLOW International, Hong Kong is one of the major manufacturer of snowboard bindings and boots.

Besides the complete new design and a flash based product catalogue we developed a sophisticated content management system (cms). With a web frontend (gui) the editors have full control over their content (text, photos, e.g.). Within the provided style guide they are even able to create new layouts and grids for more variety. The database also provides administration for news and story features, newsletter, dealer locator, mail services, internal file exchange. There will be more features added during the next 6 months like a order confirmation tool for the world wide distributors.

Places of work had been offices, server rooms, powder fields and chinese restaurants in Austria, Germany and Hong Kong.

Flowsystem® Guide CD-ROM
FLOW International Hong Kong one of the major producers of snowboard boots and bindings required a presentation of its Flowsystem®. The aim was to create an informative but also emotional media for the target group (14 - 30 years) and providing the functionality and advantages of the products. Interactive animations, "how to" videos are rotating with action videos, interviews and photos.
Our work covered all steps of the production: content development, concept, design, programming, videos and mastering.

A little website for a cooperation of 5 driving schools at Vorarlberg/AT. Plain information with an online registration form for all licenses.

At the moment we are working on a flash based driving simulation game.

Tideguide SNOW
This was/is a playground for me an Pittn/blyfri.de. The concept is a kind of spot guide for snowboarders with local background. We provide reports with fotos and video clips from trips around the area of Vorarlberg/AT and Tirol/AT. A database automatically collects and provides current weather and avalanche reports, snow heights and live cam pictures. Further on we are working on a "powder alert" messaging sytem: Users leave their email to get notified if the snow height in a selected area reaches a selected level. At the moment the project sleeps - but we will wake it up for the season 2002/2003 again.

Tideguide ZA DVD
This was the name giving and so far the most sophisticated project I did on my own. THE Tideguide project was the diploma and thesis for my studies at university.
Together with an web event the DVD is the prototype for an interactive travel guide for surfers and windsurfers for south africa. It provides all necessary information for a plesant but also explorative trip along the indian and atlantic ocean coasts. From booking the flights, car rental, accommodation and activities to spot guides with wind, weather and swell conditions everything is on that disc. Current information like satellite pictures of ocean streams, wind speed and directions are provided by connections to the internet.
Besides this pure informative part the dvd hosts more than 60 minutes of video. This clips are subjective impressions of our 6 week South Africa tour with lots of action provided by several professional windsurfers and surfers at the best spots from orange river to durban. Further on we have special features about surfboard shapers at Jeffrey's Bay, an interview with a windsurfing pro about the conditions and a multiangle instruction part for freestyle and wave manoeuvres.

The Tideguide ZA DVD is still a prototype and I am looking for a sponsor, partner or publisher to produce the product. If you are interested send me a mail.

Tideguide ZA - the website
In connection with the Tideguide ZA DVD the website is the second part of my diploma and thesis project. The web part is defined by 3 phases:
1. a teaser website to draw attention to the project and getting sponsors.
2. the "live" event: with a team of 2 cam operators an assistant and several pro windsurfers and surfers we travelled the South African coast to get the footage for the dvd. The web site has been updated every day with reports, videos and fotos. A interactive map showed up our current position and provided a contact form for the users. Therefore we could interact with the users all over the world, answer questions about the the project, the area and so on.
3. survey & archiving: after the tour we ran a survey to find out what is most important to have on the dvd. Further on a large archive of fotos and videoclips has been provided on the site. Combined with monthly features I created a little platform for surfers and windsurfers.

The challenge of this project was to coordinate the different fields like concept, budgeting, project management, design and production and all this in combination with research for the thesis.

Project MountainCam
Live cams in the internet have a special kind of fascination. They allow the user to have a tiny look in many remote places. We started to collect the pictures of 5 web cams placed on mountains in Vorarlberg/AT. 1 year 3 times a day we take a picture. At the end about 10.000 pictures will be edited to 5 different movies that will show us the melting of the snow in the spring, the thunderstorms in summer and the rising snow in the winter. A web video portray of the mountains will be created. A year in one and a half minute.

The videos will be available on CD and DVD in summer 2002. So come back or get notified by mail

MetaDesign, Berlin, 1999
During my studies at the FH-Vorarlberg I did a 6 months internship in the online team at Metadesign, Berlin. I was involved in development and production of the online and cross media communication strategies for audi.de, audi.com, bosch.com and viaginterkom.de. Further on I could participate at the campaign pitch and launch for the new audi model a2. I designed websites for the following web events: audi model tt launch, audi 24 h Le Mans sponsorship, audi annual press conference 1999, audi iaa exhibition 1999, audi new media conference, e.g..

For the stage setting of the play "Trainspotting" by Irvine Welsh I produced several videoclips.

I developed a logo for X-Media TV broadcasting station, Liechtenstein/LI.

EU logo workshop
1996: In a seminar with Walter Bohatsch I developed a dynamic logo for the European Union. The aim of the project was a visualisation identification of different information areas within the economic, social and ecological environments. One of the results was a kind of bar code scan with outputs for the different fields.
