Integral
to Smackfest is the location - Tasmania in Australia. Tasmania
is a large island situated just over 200 kilometres south
of mainland Australia.
This spectacular isle is home to numerous plant and animal
species found nowhere else in the world.
Over a quarter of a million tourists travel to Tasmania
each year to experience it's unique wilderness, food and
wine, relaxed lifestyle and history.
What many people don't know is that the west coast has
world class wavesailing. The incredible consistency of surf
and wind is provided by the 'Roaring Forties' and an uninterrupted
fetch from the great southern ocean.

What you need to bring:
The wind at Marrawah blows from both tacks, with ample wavesailing
setups to handle the varying wind directions and swell sizes.
Sails: The average windstrength is around 25 ktns but regularly
gets to 35ktns + - so small sails are a must. Occasionally there
are 15-20 knot days which still provide excellent wavesailing
opportunities. So it may be worth your while packing a 5.5 as
well depending on your body size.
Boards: a good allround wave board is recommended that
caters for your body weight and can handle plenty of down the
line waveriding speed.
Rubber: the water temperature is usually around 15-17
degrees and most riders wear either a short arm or full length
steamer.
Spares: Bring as many spares as possible. The Great Southern
Ocean can be unforgiving at times and there is no windsurf shop
for miles.
